Google Tells Schools: Turn Off AI, We'll Turn Off Search Too
Google announced a new admin setting letting schools disable Gemini and other AI features in Workspace for Education, but the toggle also switches off Google Search entirely for those accounts — there's no way to keep Search while opting out of AI. Ars Technica and The Verge both confirmed the same all-or-nothing bundling after districts had asked simply to limit AI exposure for students.

- X algorithm factor 6
- The punchline ('protected me from the alphabet too') is quotable and works standalone, but the setup requires knowing the Google Search/AI bundling story, so it leans on context more than a pure feed-stopper would.
- Conceptual accuracy 6
- Captures the core absurdity (opting out of AI kills Search entirely) reasonably well via the 'alphabet' metaphor for losing basic lookup ability, though it's a loose analogy rather than a precise depiction of the Workspace toggle mechanics.
- Humor dry 7 · nerdy 3 · zinger 7 · pithy 8
- The final line is a clean, dry zinger with good economy, but there's no tech-specific nerdy payoff — it's a general 'bureaucracy overreach' joke that could apply to any tool, not uniquely about Search/AI bundling.
- Visual clarity 5
- Panel 1 is visually confused with two characters crammed together and a balloon pointing awkwardly; labels 'INTERN' and 'USER' on shirts are needed since faces/poses don't clearly convey who's who, undercutting the visual storytelling.
