Google Tells Schools: Turn Off AI, We'll Turn Off Search Too
Google announced a new admin setting letting schools disable Gemini and other AI features in Workspace for Education, but the toggle also switches off Google Search entirely for those accounts — there's no way to keep Search while opting out of AI. Ars Technica and The Verge both confirmed the same all-or-nothing bundling after districts had asked simply to limit AI exposure for students.

- X algorithm factor 6
- The 'library card' line is quotable and the board text is screenshot-friendly, but the visual gag (exec's head cropped in panel 2) undercuts shareability; needs a cleaner punch image to stop scroll.
- Conceptual accuracy 7
- Captures the core absurdity—opting out of AI kills Search too—accurately, though it simplifies by framing it as binary 'school choice' rather than an admin toggle for Workspace accounts.
- Humor dry 7 · nerdy 4 · zinger 6 · pithy 7
- The library card line is a sharp, dry analogy that lands as a closer; it's pithy but doesn't require tech literacy to get, so nerdy score is low, and there's no real escalation or absurdist zinger beyond the final line.
- Visual clarity 5
- Panel 2 cuts off the exec's head entirely, making it look like a bizarre bodyless speech bubble; the intern's identity and reaction read fine, but that framing error is distracting and sloppy.
