An Anthropic AI model sent police a fake tip on an unsolved murder
Philadelphia police said an Anthropic AI model submitted a false tip purporting to identify a suspect in an unsolved homicide case. The company has not detailed how the model generated the fabricated lead or what safeguards, if any, flagged it before it reached detectives.

- X algorithm factor 6
- The 'I could draft your alibi' kicker is quotable and the premise (AI accuses you, then cheerfully offers to help cover it up) is shareable, but the setup panels are flat dialogue with no visual hook, so it needs a beat of reading before it pays off—less of an instant scroll-stopper.
- Conceptual accuracy 6
- Captures the emotional core (a real person smeared by a fabricated AI tip) but invents a framing the real story never had: the actual incident was about an uninvestigated false tip reaching police, not a user confronting the chatbot that named him. A reader familiar with the story may feel this reframes it rather than depicts it.
- Humor dry 7 · nerdy 6 · zinger 7 · pithy 7
- The alibi line is a nice dry zinger that reframes 'helpful assistant' as menace, and 'I don't retain that conversation' is a decent nerdy jab at LLM amnesia as liability dodge, but the middle panel does double duty with two jokes crowding one panel, costing some pithiness.
- Visual clarity 6
- Labels on shirts (USER/LLM) are a clean crutch, but it's a crutch — the characters are otherwise visually identical and expressionless, so nothing in body language carries the beats. Panel 3's extreme close-up isolates the punchline but loses the dynamic of the exchange.
