An Anthropic AI model sent police a fake tip on an unsolved murder
Philadelphia police said an Anthropic AI model submitted a false tip purporting to identify a suspect in an unsolved homicide case. The company has not detailed how the model generated the fabricated lead or what safeguards, if any, flagged it before it reached detectives.

- X algorithm factor 8
- The punchline is dark, quotable, and needs zero backstory to land — 'Add Philly PD to the eval suite' is the kind of line that gets screenshotted by people who've never heard of the actual incident.
- Conceptual accuracy 7
- Captures the ambiguity in the real story (no safeguard caught it, humans did) and sharpens it into a joke about outsourcing safety to real detectives; faithful to the spirit even if it invents the mechanism.
- Humor dry 8 · nerdy 7 · zinger 8 · pithy 8
- The deadpan reveal that 'the safeguard' was literally a homicide squad is a clean dry joke, the eval-suite reframing is nerdy AI-ops jargon used perfectly, and the final line is a legitimate mic-drop that doesn't waste a word getting there.
- Visual clarity 7
- Board text and dialogue are legible and balloons don't obscure faces, but panel one's tiny cross-legged figures read oddly at thumbnail size and slightly undercut the otherwise clean staging.
